Crippled Rain
She wills it but fears of wanting what she already has Her beauty is below her, among her. and over her head Not one but two, nor four but five Seven more times we get up to save their lives Never unseen, never confused The ever seeing eyes of heaven still see you Patriot, unearned and born unheard Illegal and famished without lavish, man’s a curse They drink in their stink and they stilt on their wine But never among the poor they dine Sovereign King, Oh Great Divine Take watch over my heart and a whip to my mind Keep me away from foolish spin tops Give me strength to change the plot, shoot a straight shot Justice is unyielding and forever is not forgiving But surely dear Father the sun is living Heaving and shielding away from the steel And cleaving to the prophets who live in those mills Protest don’t erect the laid men where they stand Arrest the woman who’s smoke covers her hand She plays cool in the night but stings poison by noon And he succumbs to her rippling perfumes Pour over he a cup of grace and song But leave her with the moths in whom she finds favor They bleed her dry and she licks them clean Sorrow falls from her eyes as she lifts her screams high For the height cannot catch her And the angels have come to fetch her reverent mind Pity awaits her but she does not succumb So glory mistakes her for a petal among loose shrubs Let a hand mend her clean into the core Away from the thorns that gouged her pores An invisible thread of linen and gold knits her womb to her hips and her hips unfold Rise sister and walk for the path was made clear By His blood you were mended and his flesh you are healed Rise sister walk among the songbirds in spring Leave the dead to their gnashing let them burn, let the, wring Rise sister and wake to the daylight at stake Take no plunder to gain only to stain Leave your name among the reeds Among the mountains and steeples, among the nests and tree holes Leave your mark across the pillars that hung you Wringing every inch of the ground into nectar and rye First a fist then trample on,Toward the road unknown Like crippled rain they will dissolve and rust
