Lost Love
Lost Love The occasion a sad one, I was in black, desperately trying to contain my grief. Then – there you were, a silver fox, in a suit, chatting, laughing – my heart flipped. How many years since we’d met – too many, I never thought I’d see you that day. We hugged, we kissed, we talked, we both said it was good to see each other. And then you were gone, leaving me with a thousand memories of you racing through my head, robbing my sleep. I’m so glad I saw you that day. In my teens I worshipped you, craved you, but we were just friends (except in my head). Hours talking on the phone, chatting about everything and nothing, loving your voice, imagining us together, touching with my lips the glass where your lips had just been. Later, we did become lovers, at last, the dream a dream no longer, but real, the fulfilment of my expectations. And now, I can still feel your kisses, your loving of me, how you made me feel, waking up with you in the morning. Even as lovers we were never meant to be together for ever it seems, fate dictated that we had to part, live our lives many miles away. But the memories of us are locked in a special corner of my heart. Ruth Mawdsley August 2019
