The Lady Down the Lane
Down the lane from me there lived a lady, I took a daily walk right past her home, I think she waited for me to come by there, It broke my heart to learn that she was gone. I still can see her at her kitchen window, She'd raise it up and say her sweet hello, Some small talk in the cool of every evening, And as the sun would lower I would go. Now age had made its' entrance I could tell, Her shaky voice was always low and kind, I never really knew too much about her, I'll never know for she ran out of time. I've noticed that the house has been updated, Someone new has moved into her place, When I walk by they wave and maybe nod, Still everyday I search to see her face. The lady down the lane had made me happy, She made my long walk worthy of each mile, As I go by her house I still feel comfort, I think about her often and I smile.
