Molly
Let me tell you a story about Molly . . . Molly lived down the street from our house since I was a child, she was a very friendly and kind lady who befriended my mother; oh, there were many days of tea in the backyard or in our kitchen, she loved to talk and tell us stories of where she grew up- England. She and her husband had one son but she told me she wanted a girl, maybe that is why she took a liking to me and I liked her a lot too; I spent lots of time in her home looking at albums and looking at stuff, she always gave me cookies and milk and a kiss and hug. Her husband died suddenly- looking up at the sky he fell dead, of course, she was very sad after and her son was living out of town; I went to visit her often and she would tell me how she met her husband, she told all kinds of stories of their adventures together, it was love. I never thought of Molly as being old but I guess she was elderly, because not long after her husband died she was put in a nursing home; the house was sold quickly and her things were given to charity, I found that cruel- all those years of collecting, all those treasures gone. Well, I heard recently that Molly had died in the nursing home, a few years ago I visited her there but she did not know who I was; I don't even know where she is buried so I can bring her flowers, Molly loved flowers, I wonder if her son knew that . . . ____________________________ March 21, 2020 Poetry/Narrative/Molly Copyright Protected, ID 20-1238-084-03 All Rights Reserved, 2020, Constance La France NA in the contest, The Lady Down the Lane, Judged 4/11/2020 Submitted to the Premier contest, Final Call Of NAs Your Most Meaningful One sponsor, Chantelle Anne Cooke Second Place
