The Tommy and Mollie Conners Story
Jolly Polly Sue Conner was her name, and she came from the grand old town found just outside of Harvest Oak, deep in the backwoods of Maine called Mattie Blue Junction. * She came from a rather large family with a loving mom and dad who worked hard, went to church, and loved their family and their country. She was the oldest of 10 children ranging in age from 7 months to 16 years. Her daddy's name was Tommy Drip Maplewood Conner, and he was a truck driver hauling just about anything that could turn hard and dirty blue-collar labor into green dollar signs. Her mother's name was Molly Mae Conner, and she mostly was a hairdresser who beautified every lady that ever walked the streets of Mattie Blue Junction. There was never a maple-dropping dull moment to be found in the Conner home because they always kept busy with work, school, or chores which kept them going from the break of Hello Dawn to the last look-out-yonder at the evening star. At about that time, they settled in for a wonderful family meal of the finest cooking on all of the East Coast. There was no such thing as a government program like cash aid or food coupons and you can 'take it to the bank' that no one ever went hungry or without adequate shoes and clothes. They did not believe in credit either but paid for everything with their hard-earned green-blooded sun-stained 'in God we trust' cash. I tell you; this was the kind of home that Jolly grew up in, and she was raised the old fashion way. The old fashion 'guaranteed to work kind of way' that enabled Jolly Polly to be the first in her family to go to college. And when Jolly Polly Sue finished college, she was offered a big fat socially elitist type of job in New York City, but she turned it down and took a local job as a school teacher. She did not have a silly slave-driving school bill that would have forced her to be in debt for the next 10 to 15 years. No, no, you bet your bottom dollar 'NO!', because Jolly Polly worked hard in and out of the classroom. By the time Polly finished college, she had very little debt. When just a child, I met a man named 'Book Closed' who was a lot like Jolly Polly Sue. He too was an unusual 'bet your bottom dollar' person. I have no bridge for sale and the earth was never flat, but I present to you Jolly's life which was one that speaks proudly for America. Jollie Pollie had pure blooded strong backbone, the kind that built this country. And Jollie's was the proudest family that ever resided in Mattie Blue Junction, Maine. 2520PS*Fiction
