Warmth of Fire
That cold English wind and that rain, All day and all night drive me insane, Tapping on window unwanted guest, In winter months an unceasing pest! I huddle closer to hearth’s gas lit fire, With a cup of tea warm bites I desire, My Wife and children all in one room, family united by the weather gloom! We talk of stories of our distant times, some Disney tales or nursery rhymes, Smiles and tears glimmer in fire light, As the hearts warm to a family nite. As time goes by, heads begin to nod, Sleepy eyes soon to bed would plod, But our youngest girl is wide awake, Her face looks worried as I can make! A loving cuddle I give, arm around her, I asked her the cause of her bother, She looks up at me, softly she says, ‘I worry a lot during these rainy days’ Her worry was for those on the street, Who have no roof or shade to retreat, That night as we all went to our beds, We prayed God for roofs over their heads!
