Little One
I remember the only time I held you And how I found you there like that. Bundled up inside that sling, All tight like plastic wrap. Frantically I searched for you, Not knowing where you’d be. There is nothing that I wanted more, Than to have you look at me. To this day I feel your warmth, As I reached down for that sheet. Never could I have prepared, For the moment that we’d meet. Swaddled like you were napping, cept for the bag pressed to your face. Never will I forget holding you, that memory will not erase. I drove you in the ambulance, While they worked you in the back. I cursed the only working train, I’d ever seen upon that track. I prayed opposite the curtain, While they did all that they could. I mourned for you for quite some time, And tried to find the good. At the time I had no children, Now that I do I mourn you more. When you drop by in my memories, For you, It’s them that I’ll adore.
