Scarlet
There was nothing much to offer in her time of black and white, working through the daylight, and sleeping through the night. She used to live that style of life then watched it fade away. Now she's working through the night, and sleeping through the day. She was left upon her own when her cheating man walked out. Two kids only babies; she had to feed each hungry mouth. Everyone was sorry; there was little they could do, but when she changed her lifestyle, they sung a different tune. Those who paint her scarlet would come knocking on her door. Those who knew her shades of blue won't comfort her no more. She climbed aboard a rainbow to reach her golden dream - nobody now could ever paint her green. There ain't no rent man now; she's bought a little home. There were many questions. ‘How did she do it on her own?’ When the gossip wants to sleep, a lie’s told just before, she'd get up to answer a knock upon her door. Everybody says they want to live their life in black and white. Everyone who comes to her in the middle of the night, who are looking for some happiness and colour they have lost, and so behind her shades, their scarlet money is the cost. Those who paint her scarlet would come knocking on her door. Those who knew her shades of blue won't comfort her no more. She climbed aboard her rainbow to reach her golden dream - nobody now could ever paint her green. Paint Scarlet green.
