Losing the Dream
The full moon illuminated the sky, We walked the streets of the upper West Side, Spicy, late summer breeze weaved through the trees above of us, Playing with your hair and trying to lift my skirt, We met hours before at a street cafe, I was reading and you stopped for a conversation, We shared an ice cream sundae, I bloomed under your attentive gaze and wise words, You were high on a raptured audience When the ice cream melted, I was half in love with you and You were imagining me naked. We found my car and I drove to your hotel, We people watched and talked about sex, You asked me to your room You asked me to stay, I said yes, but my inituition screamed no, I left you in a dark hotel hallway puzzled and frustrated, Why did you leave? You ask months later from another continent, Stop the Momentum, Kill the dream. I insist I wanted to stay, to be touched, desired and consumed, Why did you leave? you ask again, It didn’t feel right, I say, (My regret crackles over the Atlantic) I thought you felt what I felt, I say, No, you were a holiday fling, you say, I met someone else, Let's be friends, I offer at goodbye, Don't put any obligations on me, you say, I will talk to you when I talk to you. I hang up the phone, The momentum is gone, the dream is dead, I go to sleep alone.
