Once t’was my home I find my mind wants me to forget! When I was a child things were tough. I had parents that couldn’t really give me too much love. Now I find myself in familiar seas. The country I love wants to abandon me. I feel confused as I try to see. What we had was good but now that’s history. What we had when children could play out in the sun. When The fun and laughter started in the dawn finishing with the setting sun. When threat was a word that we seldom used. When friends were friends and no divisions or colours choose! I remember the days when our imaginations could run. We could have fun for days with nothing more than bikes, sticks or even chewing gum! What happened to the innocence of our golden youth? What happened to our lives when we understood the colder truths? I let my mind drift back sometimes. If I close my eyes I can see the sun shine in our smiling eyes. I can feel the grass and the summer evening air. Hear our voices call and sing as time had no care. Now I look at the coast and feel like a separate entity. I look at the people and I don’t see you or you or even me. The world we had that we thought was ours is now it’s being ripped apart and we can see its un healing scars. I think I’ll stay here on my raft. I think I’ll lay under blue skies and twinkling stars. I think I’ll let nature do for me. If it wants to take me back I’ll find a life to live with another key. If it drifts me away into the deeper sea I’ll always remember when you were mine and you loved me.
