Waking Up
She looks up at the ceiling and is oblivious to him, it has been too many years since she felt-anything- too Long. She listens in the darkness to his breathing, but she will not look upon him as he sleeps. Later she wakes and slips silently from their bed, seeking solitude from her pain and awaits the sun rise. In the morning she fills the kettle and makes his tea, she is pleased to send him on his way- Yet he will return. Her life is an endless nightmare- she long to be free, then the turning of a key fills her with dread. Often she feels no physical pain- just humiliation, bruised and battered she cooks- her own hunger gone. And a voice inside her says 'leave him', she prays for an end- any end even death is preferable. Today she can stay no longer- it is time.
