Emmaus Road
Two weary travelers whose hopes were dim – A stranger there inquires of their sadness. Though he alone could turn their gloom to gladness, The two were kept from recognizing him. He asks them, “Friends, what is it you discuss?” The two are startled at the stranger’s word “Are you the only one who has not heard?” Cleopas says, “We speak of Christ Jesus.” The stranger then starts speaking of the Son, Explaining Scriptures pointing to the Christ - How he must suffer and be sacrificed, How prophets had foretold the things he’d done: How he would come to us by virgin birth That he was to be crucified by men That after dying he would rise again And be the future King of the whole earth. The guest becomes the host and breaks the bread And instantly their eyes were opened wide They hurried to proclaim that He who died, The Lord himself, was risen from the dead!
