Glass Heart
Once upon a time there was a girl with a glass heart, so she had to be careful of falling in love or her world could be shattered apart She wasn’t allowed to go out and mingle as others do, she was locked away to keep her safe and from ever meeting you She watched the others get made up and saw them dress so prettily, and all that she wanted was to be like them but that could never be Her condition caused her to be careful and so she wasn’t allowed to feel, but all her life she had dreamed of finding a love that was real One day it seemed that all her dreams were coming true, she found a way to escape the madness and there she found you She dressed up in her finest and made herself look so pretty, she didn’t know that she would find the one that day that she would dream of for eternity When he came close and he asked her to dance, she held onto her chest afraid to take a chance But he intrigued her with those eyes and those strong arms of his, so she threw caution to the wind and leaned in for a sweet kiss But as the time drew near that she knew she had to go, she couldn’t tell him her secret and why he must never know That she can’t ever love because if it ends, she will break, her heart will literally shatter and that’s more than she is willing to take So, she runs away as she has been warned to do, and leaves behind her one true love and all that she feels for you On her way out, a little piece cracks and falls to the floor, it’s not enough to shatter it completely but it’s the start for more She already felt something her heart fell in love, and the pain is creeping in because she knows he was the one He bends down to see what she left in her wake, and he ponders as he holds it in his hands “what did she break”? He runs after her, but she is already out of sight, he knows that he must find her to mend what is broken to make things right He searches far and wide for the girl that ran away, and one day he hears her voice and what she has to say She is telling someone that its started and it’s cracking day by day, before long there will be nothing left, and she is in dismay He whispers into her ear as he comes up from behind, that he finally found the girl that he has dreamed of all his life She looks down at her heart and sees that the cracking is starting to mend, and then he reaches into his pocket and asks her to hold out her hand He gently places the piece of her heart that broke away that fateful night, and he asks her to let him protect her heart through all of time.
