The Fire
Fire leaping its devouring bright flame, Embers flying to mix with light rain, Red, orange and yellow as a sky in a storm, Rising higher and higher left a landscape forlorn. Heat so ferocious that I had to retreat, Spitting and snarling nearly reaching my feet, Excited and dancing against the darkness of night, Burning so brightly turning blackness to light. Even the drizzle could make no remark, As it turned trees to charcoal ignited by spark, Others made witness drawn by the sight, I saw fear in their eyes and with it their fright. On through the night consuming the land, Cracking and spreading as if by God's hand, Until finally at dawn it seemed it was spent, a land singed and blackened it began to relent. I shall never forget so barren the sight, How quickly the grass grew so lush with delight, Cows now inhabit grazing on pastures of green, A welcome new sight oh! so lovely now the scene.
