Christian Mann
Poor in appearance With hunger and thirst Want for nothing more Knew not of the purse Gentle in demeanor Never a bad word to say He loved the whole world It was simply his way Given name, Christian with surname of Mann the object of ridicule life’s harsh demands He continued to smile For all that he met Because in his heart He would never forget The one man before him That wandered the road Burden upon burden He had carried our load Christian remembered That all men were saved and left to be judged Upon judgment day So, onward he went Each day a new mile Christian Mann gave us A reason to smile He taught all he met Of the need to be pure Because he also felt good And really nothing more “For, reward we attain Is the goodness we feel When we live a clean life When we share in life’s zeal!” This man, he had taught me To be good and that’s all So, I tell you now of him So you, too, can be called. Christian Mann had died Alone, a while ago A cheap pine casket To be buried below Buried in a cemetery No words, except the priest’s But, I know in my heart That Christian now feasts. He’s enjoying his rewards That were promised at birth If you suffer and endure You shall inherit the earth So, Christian taught a lesson Whether or not you believe Be a kind and generous neighbor And try to never deceive You must be open to love And also be willing to die So when your body whithers on Your soul, it will fly!
