On Water and Wing
Cob swan and I have met here many times, As heaven's hem is melting pink and peach, A waxing gibbous moon now peeks and climbs, Its timid cheeks soft-blushing like the reach. My dipping oars, with rhythm, cut the lake, While swan divides the silence, just behind, To wend the wondrous ribbons of my wake, And weave them to this covenant we bind. We two are old in more than but our years, Yet always yearn the romance of our youth, So here we share our travels and our tears, To hope for warmer days and sweeter truth. As swan, upon the breath of Autumn, flies, Last call for lonely hearts ... and empty skies. ~ 2nd Place ~ in the "Premiere IV - Open" Poetry Contest, Rob Carmack, Judge & Sponsor. ~ Honorable Mention ~ in the "Strand Select A - Any Form Any Theme" Poetry Contest, Brian Strand, Judge & Sponsor. ~ 1st Place ~ in the "Your Best Sonnet July - December 2019" Poetry Contest, John Hamilton, Judge & Sponsor. ~ 3rd Place ~ in the "Favourite Poem From November 2019" Poetry Contest, Julia Ward, Judge & Sponsor. ~ 4th Place ~ in the "New Fall Sonnets" Poetry Contest, Emile Pinet, Judge & Sponsor. ~ 1st Place ~ in the "2019 Best Sonnet" Poetry Contest, John Hamilton, Judge & Sponsor.
