Harvest's End
The moon rides high in a star studded sky. The air is crisp and chill. It sends down it's silver glow, On a town that's quiet, still. A heavy frost descends tonight, Lending a sparkling cloak, To trees and grass and fences, And dampens my light Fall coat. The trees have lost their leaves now. The pond is an icy slush. The snow that stays is next to fall. Everything seems to have hushed. The birds have flown south for the winter, Leaving few to weather the cold. Squirrels still scurry here and there, Storing food before Winter takes hold. The fields lay stripped and bare now. A good harvest has left them spent. Now field mice scurry and forage, For what's left after harvest's rent. The end of Fall is here now. Winter approaches fast. A pristine picture of winter white, A long blue shadow now casts.
