Killing the Dream In the Age of Silence
It started on his first day of school I was promptly labelled dunce and fool For being a lefty guess I wasn't cool The yardstick across the fingers Left bruises to the heart that still lingers Learn to write with your right or you get another zinger How can a 5 year old stand and fight With no savior in sight You just take it til they quench all your light Yet this was the place where all children go To get fed knowledge to help them grow To eventually make it in the world's big show And so the Parents still sent me day by day Just a free day care system to keep me away So in my struggle for survival I learned to fight or play. I managed to make it those early years Just to step into high school and face more fears Where Bullies were plentiful and fights more fierce Then they gave me a diploma for surviving again I smiled and walked away and stuffed down the pain And joined the labor force just to be retrained 12 years of knowledge never served me well For years that I strived in the workforce hell Had to deal with abusive bosses as well I had a dream once when I first did dream That I was a shooting star in the universal theme But the dream was a lie that the world had schemed. So here I am now training another naive soul Whose dream has landed him in this Godforsaken hole But first I teach him the truth so his sanity remains whole.
