Giggles
It was well past midnight that night A moon glittered through the window I was getting quite a bit older, 55 And most night sounds didn’t disturb me There happened to be a loud screech That made me think of my screen door So I reached into my bedside stand And pulled out the pistol I had there I grabbed for my robe and slippers But could only find the soft shoes I slipped them on and ignored the fact That I was sneaking around in the nude Slowly, I descended the stairway Never intending to be seen or caught With only my XL birthday suit on The thought to me never occurred I went down the steps one by one Never hearing the sound anymore It seemed I’d made a mistake this time No burglar on whom I would pounce Then, the screen door, that was the sound It screeched a little louder than before I hurried out toward the kitchen nook Where I hoped to catch a burglar in tow I held up my pistol in front of my nakedness Knowing that I was about to be caught But, so was whoever was making this noise At my back door, where the sound hadn’t ceased Stumbling into the kitchen with dread I saw that the cat, Giggles, hadn’t been let in And she was tearing the door down herself To let me know that she needed her space Thankfully, no one except the cat saw me That night when I hurried down the steps With only my birthday suit on my old body Expecting to meet up with a burglar or bum October 8, 2019 NUDE - descending a staircase Poetry Contest Sponsored by: John lawless
