Youth Is On Your Side
When you were young they used to say "youth is on your side", But, now I can look back and I know, they lied, they lied, they lied. When you get to be mature, then more mature and older, The sentence. "youth is on your side", was just a myth they told yer P In school they told you what to do and bossed you all around, You had to do a lot of work and never earned a pound. You weren't allowed to break the rules or touch the evil drink, Adults told you what to do and even what to think. Then you went to college , more rules and work to do. They conned you to believing, that it was good for you. After that you got a job, still bossed around all day, You didn't have a chance to grow or go your own sweet way. Then marriage and children came along. OK but quite a chore. You had to work and care for them, often quite a bore. THEN, they left, freedom came and you no longer need to earn, You can just enjoy yourself and if you want to learn. When you reach a certain age, you really don't care less What other people think or if they like the way you dress. You start to get stuff on the cheap, concessions , are just great The bus if free, so off you go, you don't care if it's late. They give you medicine for free, all the drugs you need, In youth you had to pay for them, I think they called it 'weed'. They'll test your eyes for nothing and if poor sight is found, Specs that used to be two hundred quid are in the Pound Shop for a pound. Then they give you Winter Fuel, so you'll have cosy toes, But, if you like your house quite cool, just buy Designer clothes! You can spend these carefree days, doing stuff you like to do, Don't worry about world collapse, there's nothing you can do. You can travel all around the world with all cares left behind,. Spending kids inheritance, I'm sure that they won't mind. These golden years are definitely, what life is all about, The time to BE and DO your thing, live, sing and even shout. So, all in all, I've never had more fun than I have now And when the final curtain falls, I'll go out with a bow. The only thing to stress about is yes or no to Brexit, Hopefully before UK civil war, I will have made my exit. But, for goodness sake, don't believe that "youth is on your side", Because, when you get to be mature, you realise, they lied!!!
