The Deep Solemn Prayer and Its Sincerest Hope
The Deep Solemn Prayer And Sincerest Of Hopes I walked myself to that great sacrifice stone Aware of multitude of sins, I must atone. Forever seeking path to die, make true amends For miseries I have caused lovers and friends This path, lit by wisdom and verses that speak true Leads me to a judgement that is too long overdue An Achilles begging fateful poison arrow Walking into death, burn in its fiery narrows In vain hope, this sacrifice wipes dark life away By some miracle, fulfills prayer I now pray. I walked myself to that great sacrifice stone Aware of multitude of sins, I must atone. Dependent on mercy and God's infinite grace With knowledge that I can not my bad deeds erase Nor within encasing of human flesh and bone Bleed I forgiveness from a heart once made of stone Yet that saving Light giving great hope sings to me This soul may escape this pain and again be free Given entry to paradise of Heaven's shores Believing that even for me God's mercy pours. I walked myself to that great sacrifice stone Aware of multitude of sins, I must atone. Robert J. Lindley, 9-13-2019 Rhyme, ( The Fateful Journey Along That Very Fine Narrow Edge ) ( Tracing the steps along the ledge overlooking that darkest, deepest abyss ) Note - Written in tribute to this poet of olden times, and this famous poem My Beloved Is Mine, And I Am His; He Feedeth Among The Lilies, By Francis Quarles (1592–1644)
