The letter was affixed with his ring seal, oh, it was hard to believe it was real; his family thought we were a wrong match, to attach himself to me spelled- mismatch: I was sent away and came home to heal. I was so perplexed- I had to recline, holding it, I made the pages align; I admit to you that I was confused, for my heart and soul had been badly bruised; my darling, he began on the first line. My heart began to contort, knot and twist, I recalled the first time that we had kissed; now, this love was corrosion and decay, and I was old- my lovely hair gone gray; youth and beauty did no longer exist. In my innermost mind I still loved him, I could still see him standing tall and slim; in my subconscious he had never ever changed, I dreamt we cuddled each night ... though estranged; he was dying, I read- and all went dim. __________________________ September 6, 2019 Written for the contest, Ten Word Challenge 1 sponsor, Kai Michael Neumann
