He
HE He ponders on all the past years, now getting older An extra jumper here and there; as it getting colder The garden is not at its best, the bushes overgrown Staying in seems to be a past time to all he’s known The laces are looking tattered &, the curtains drawn The cat sits on the window sill and gives out a yawn Days, are spent idle now since his wife passed away Time spent reminiscing hoping to see a brighter day The radio plays its music happy memories he recalls Seen now to be a comfort within his, own four walls The old black kettle whistles out its familiar old tune He and his wife had chatted here many an afternoon In this kitchen warm and welcoming; full of laughter All the crumbs gathered to feed the birds thereafter The kitchen bowl stands empty no dishes fill the sink Just using the same old mug when he wants a drink A nice cup of tea before he sets off to eat downtown A few beers in the Dog & Duck so his sorrows drown Then slowly ambles home to a cat waiting on its meal And to a life, that to him seems now to be so surreal Indiana Shaw . . .
