Angels In the Sky
ANGELS IN THE SKY Angels in the sky watched Christ on the tree Waiting for His cry, “Come and rescue Me!” But He hung there still, those words He did not say, Submitting to God’s will the price of sin to pay. He had suffered scorn and looked not like a man, Head with crown of thorns, nails there in His hands. Stripes there on His back, face all scarred and bruised Beard once there now lacked—He was so abused! Someone had to then help His cross to bear Soon the time came when He would hang up there. One thief on each side, one just mocked again, The other to Him cried and was saved from sin. Then at noon the sky dark as night became; God now was not nigh as He bore my shame. Angels could not look as God bare His hand And His Son forsook to carry out this plan. Angels in the sky never will quite know All the reasons why Christ that day did go. Then they watched in awe, on that third day sang Christ arose they saw—MY, how heaven rang! Yes, angels in the sky watched Him die for me, I think and then I cry, “He did that willingly! I should have been the one punished so severe, But God’s precious Son took my place down here!” Angels in the sky now worship at His feet, Some day by and by that precious One I’ll meet! Thoughts from a sermon preached bt Dr. Tracy Fowler, HBC, August, 2019 (Updated with corrections)
