Mini World In the Grasses of My Yard
There is so much in my yard that delights me. I can sit inside and love it, or I can lie in the grass, on my tummy, picking the blades apart, gleaning knowledge of a secret society as I track them working inch by inch. Teeny tiny little creatures not immediately seen, but seen when I part their grasses. Slugs. Earthworms. Large black ants. Tiny brown ants. Hello Mr. Grasshopper, why such a hurry? Some are frenzied, running from my curious giant eyes, and my giant hands. The blackest, scariest looking most huge ant just landed on my hand. Bigger than a new Cadillac for Mr. Grasshopper. I watch him climb up my hand. He tickles. I brush him off, and let his shiny self back gently into the grass. He does not act surprised, merely walks away in a different direction. There is an ugly bug here now. Something roach-like but not a roach. I watch him amble through the grasses, away from the giant. I feel all-powerful here in the sun, knowing that every footstep in the grass could be a disaster now.
