A Tribute To the Documentary Shelter
A Tribute to the Documentary “Shelter” Don’t know ‘bout no talking Or no soul search’n But I must thrive , right? Don’t know ‘bout no tears Don’t know ‘bout no fears I done seen too much to cry now I stay shooting for Mars in my veins To the memory of Mamma and Pops Lost to cancer and gun shots Don’t know ‘bout no chil’ren But mines come first , right? Don’t know ‘ bout no feed’n No diaper chang’n No baby si’n Took two bullets for my brother Loss a lot of blood But not my loyalty Ain’t neva run away Just been explore’n Mess with me, You goin’ down I’m homeless Bow down to me Don’t deny me of nothing Where’s my blanket And my hot food? I’ve had some good days But everything seems to fall apart when I’ve got something go’n I done slept on park benches and street corners Begged for loose change Only to survive on a nickel and a dime I done been alone in the woods wandering Ain’t got no plans But I’m still go’n I’ll just see what happens I done sold everything under the sun To finance my habit I’m not alone There is more of me out there That person I knew ain’t here no more I act a fool in the club Dancing alone with a broken beer bottle in hand So I get kicked out Momma gave me up at five But I’m still alive My heart expands when I smile But I ain’t happy My friend’s name is Survival Marckincia Jean Free verse 05/27/19
