What It Is
That moment when alone meets loneliness From my mind to my heart it goes Churning in me a deep hopelessness Something larger than a feeling But smaller than what I’m worth to you There’s a break in your love Maybe it’s gone all together But what about your promise for us forever Guess vows don’t mean anything anymore Fainting I fall to the floor You’re done with me Trash to discard Like a cigarette bud to the ground Stepped on to stop the spark But I’m not that lucky Your spark is out, but mine has started a fire And it rages a war against the world we’ve created together No more happiness Joy to go up in flames The urge to run kicks in As you kick me again “Just know what this is,” you say And another fear stacks on top of another tear Just give up Like that’s the thought you wish I’d chase You’re pushing me away But do I stay? To be walked all over? Yes, I’ll stay Because this love is more than the hurt you give How generous you are And you just keep giving And I’ll just keep taking How selfish a transaction That will not end Until you’re strong enough to say “It’s over.”
