Greg and the Hunkie Hawk
Amidst Mystic’s art and craft show last May I was wandering. By a stall with wildlife photos malingering, Where my new beau Greg caught me beaming. A gorgeous red tailed hawk photo I was unashamedly oogling. “What a hunk” I exclaimed, as I studied it closely, Wallowing in the hawk’s full feathered vitality. Greg was not amused by my rave review, Or when my comments grew. “Boy he’s really something” I fawned over the hunkie hawk. Greg was at a loss to see why I would at length gawk. So he was eager to draw me away, From what he saw as an embarrassing display. Soon after we rested by a stone wall in the shade. ‘Twas time to continue this kidding charade. I was eager to see how far with this banter My charming fella me would flatter. “He’s quite a looker, eh?” I gushed. Hoping my admiration he’d crushed, Greg said, “ Oh, I dunno, he's got an awfully big beak.” “What, are you jealous?” I asked, my curiosity peaked. “Any lady hawk would think him a good provider.” “He’d catch and rip up dinner, while his looks increased her ardor.” “ I can be a good provider,” said Greg, then adding more. “Don't have to catch it, but I can buy it in the store.” “ But look at his big chest full of beautiful feathers,” I sighed. Greg sat up and stuck out his chest - impressive, I couldn’t deny! “I've got a big chest too,” he said, smiling. But I wasn’t through wrangling. My final sally went forth -“ Oh, but he has such a penetrating gaze.” Greg removed his glasses and looked at me, his eyes with victory ablaze. “But mine are blue, as you call them, Paul Newman blue,” “ and his are only brown and they're beady,” his trump card he knew. “ Yeah, you've got him there,” I admitted, the finale written, and gave in, giggling and smitten.
