To Help a Treasured Friend
Conflict was in turmoil at the thought of what he'd done. And the walls were quickly closing... so he was forced to run. Danger lurked at every turn to threaten his existence. His only choice was to phone his friends and beg for their assistance. 'I've got real problems,' Conflict pleads in a voice beset by craze. 'I need your help... I'm very tired and haven't slept in days.' His friend replied, 'Do not worry, we will keep you safe from harm. I will gather all our treasured friends and meet you at the farm.' Conflict walked... then hitched a ride and met his friends that night. Where the synonyms had quietly gathered to talk of Conflict's plight. His friends were deep in horror when told the monstrous deed. But Conflict was a treasured Chum... On this they all agreed. He felt a little better knowing he may yet survive the day. With their help and a little luck, he may not end up as prey. Pandemonium erupted, 'We should help Conflict fight to win.' And Hysteria mixed with Terror nodded quietly with both their chins. 'What should we do?' Anger raged. 'Should Conflict stay or flee?' While Fear was breeding Chaos... which no one paid to see. Anxiety was rather nervous at the thought of Conflict's pain. But it was Struggle paired with Trepidation who really felt the strain. Paranoia started yelling, 'There's someone on the path.' While Depression quietly wallowed, 'Now we'll feel all of Danger's wrath.' The synonyms were in a panic as Crisis hit the floor. And all looked on in tortured fright knowing Danger's at the door. 'Oh no. They have found me,' cried poor Conflict in distress. Disaster yelled, 'We'll bar the door and give them no access.' 'Slip out the back and we'll hold them off,' said Anguish in despair. While Tragedy grabbed Conflict's arm and dragged him down the stairs. Out the back and into the night, Conflict met with Strife. 'Take my car,' he strongly begged. 'It may just save your life. 'I cannot go and leave you here while Danger's at the door.' 'We''ll be fine... just save yourself, we can ask for nothing more.' 'Then give my thanks to all my friends,' said Conflict deep in tears. I know a house where Trouble lives and will hide there till it's clear.' As Conflict drove his eyes welled up... knowing of their end. How loyal synonyms are always game... to save a treasured friend. The End *For those who might be interested. I will be posting my cartoon 'Bob's your Uncle' on my homepage. A new one will appear every second day.
