Too Many Raindrops
Too many raindrops Follow me every step I tossed out my umbrella That I should have kept. I dry my eyes to find my way So many puddles are everywhere My clothes are soaked, my hair strung out I must complain. I don’t care I just see a bit of blue sky Too many clouds bursting at the seams No sign in sight that it’ going to let up Nothing is going to stop it, by no means. Many thoughts of where I’d rather be I trudge along, splash and splatter, In my path a turtle spoke to me Asking ‘what’s the matter” I don’t like being in the rain I told him I don’t have raingear and have miles to go The turtle asked if I’d mind a companion We set forth, but oh, it was slow. We stopped at an abandon farm house Then sat on the porch to dry while He told me his life was always in the water I said I know you do, with a smile. But I’m not a turtle I told him He replied,” I am what I am, I’m not mistaken” “Life is more pleasurable when you accept” He taught me something that I have taken. Our attitudes can improve by mind over matter Something’s in life you can change, some cannot I should not turn away from such trivial things Must endure my walk, raindrops or not. He said he loved the water, it was his home ‘living under the sun would burn my shell’ I said being under water would end my life Raindrops on you would only repel. He said I had the ability to make choices in life Whether to walk or not in the rain, That he was not able to make such a choice “Being in water is sustaining which I must remain”. He said he must get back to the pond Since he has been away too long I too must part with you my friend Out under the raindrops, I was whistling a song. It’s not a matter of choice Of who or what we are But what we make of it Life can be better by far.
