The African Claim
Our souls are troubled They grieve in pain In their own land, They live in fear. I am not proud to be Afri.can, I am not proud to be who I am, I am not proud to be where I stand. The gurus and tycoons, Wine and dine On our own sweat and toil One thing sure isn’t their concern: Our foes and pain We remain like the spoons Which feed the master at what gain? I am not proud to be Afri.can, I am not proud to be who I am, I am not proud to be where I stand. Everyday of our existence Brings along more limitations And doubled confrontations Our labour and thirst To them it’s not pain For they only consider their gains. I am not proud to be Afri.can, I am not proud to be who I am, I am not proud to be where I stand. I advocate for a revolution That will bring about the Afri.can unification In a bid to end our humiliation And finally reach our destination Meant to give us full satisfaction. I am not proud to be Afri.can, I am not proud to be who I am, I am not proud to be where I stand. I declare null and void The ideological fallacies of Euro-American faculties Who claim, ‘Africa is full of darkness’ How ironic their claims And surprisingly aren’t ashamed Of the provocative claims Void of thought or intellect. I am not proud to be Afri.can, I am not proud to be who I am, I am not proud to be where I stand. We are the machine, That drives the world forward The light that the earth yearns for And the better natural hope The world has lacked. I am not proud to be Afri.can, I am not proud to be who I am, I am not proud to be where I stand Until we take back ours That’s been robbed by other lands.
