The Dust Sucker
Konrad’s hoover hovers from wall to wall in the back room of his mind A partial vacuum once the power switch is on and all neurons are firing Time for a good clean up the curtains have been drawn for far too long Stage abandoned curtains closed and no more subtle applause in the offing Stuffy props like stalagmites covered in dust and epic static disarray Spider webs mighty mites conduct a concerto of layered consciousness At the epicentre of transmission an abandoned fuse board in confusion Nagging rodents have cast doubt and interruption underneath the grime Ashes cover an antique hearth where ember’s flame has grown cold and A chimney of passion lies swept under carpets of disillusioned time Beyond Konrad’s reach lies a bellow struck from a hatch by mistake Axons and dendrites kidnapped by distorted synapses in defeated retreat A whole Rohrschach test of coffee ground resides on ornamental tiles Enough to read fortunes dearth confessions coalescing concessions Adjoined by nuts resin and raisins spilled and tread on for many moons A few tea leaves have invaded porous grounds where shine has withdrawn Adhesive stickers from an old album mingle with cute marbles he lost Where skirting boards and peeling paint give shelter to distant memories Flakes of oatmeal from the last supper nestle like islands of discontent Swashed in lubricant where springs are unhinged and key holes are jammed A peculiar sense of cohesion envelops the dense scene in sensorial reflection As past drama comedy tragedy and a parlour of voices lost in concert swallow Up unravelled guitar strings as it winds discord into disorganized suction It’s all in the bag the stage is empty bar strings of canvas are refusing to budge ‘Better take a photograph for social media and posterity for judgement day’ But a portrait of nothingness appears lost in remedial action as the assortment Of storied treasures and narrative display a sad picture of pretentious cleanliness Fading emotions or conciliation with past misdemeanour call for lateral thinking One flow of antithetical thinking and Konrad resorts to reverse engineering ‘I’m not a slave of a vacuum’ and he changes the setting from sucking to blow Of course all the debris might want to be rearranged into another mosaic on Stoneware ceramics and mindfulness but entangled threads are superior to none 08th March 2019
