The Elderly At Home For Christmas
THE ELDERLY AT HOME FOR CHRISTMAS Yes, I am home now for Christmas, here in this nice nursing home, But no one comes now to see me--I feel like a hermit who roams. Family all are too busy, having their Christmas away, All having fun, food, and presents, while here alone I just stay. Oh, I have friends in the nurses, and other old folks just like me, But what a joy if just someone from a family I could now just see. Used to be some of the church folks dropped by to tell me hello, Pray with me, read to me Scripture, and oh, how I loved it so! Now it seems they have forgotten; others, I guess, need their time; I guess I’ll get used to it somehow, but I wish I would come to their mind. Someday I’ll be home for Christmas; there in God’s mansions I’ll find Jesus and loved ones aren’t busy--there they have plenty of time. But oh, how my day here is brightened when just one does stop by and say, “I love you, and just thought I’d visit and brighten your long, lonesome day!” It makes it almost just like heaven to think there is someone who cares, So do not forget all the elderly, and once in awhile just call on them there. They’ll really be so glad to see you no matter if you’re family or not; It’s an experience you really will treasure and one that is not soon forgot.
