Memories of a War
There are times when I find I cannot enjoy peace of mind, When memories of a war overwhelm me. It seems like only yesterday When I answered the call to duty, But it was many years ago I fought alongside my comrades. Now I'm home from that never ending war, Home is far away and across the sea, But I still remember that year I spent in hell's eternity. I remember it as if it were only yesterday, We were marching across the land, Going in and out of the jungle Fighting hand to hand. Never knowing what to expect But always on the alert, Waiting and silently watching In the still darkness of the night. Hunting down the enemy Was a God forbidden sight, But we knew the odds were great In winning us a fight. A light burned in Washington As our leaders planned our aims, In a never ending struggle Many lives have have died in vain.
