The Trump Card
I'm not crazy about political poetry Because politics feel a bit ... soiled to me But as a requirement for the contest I will say the following, as a humble opinion ONLY ... I do not know the man I don't know the motivations of his heart Or the focus of his spiritual intent I also do not expect him to be anything but human Subject to all the weaknesses, fallibility, and mistakes that we ALL are As president, however, he is held to a higher standard I expect him to give the office its due honor, and I believe he does I saturate myself with news and knowledge of the world each day From every side and every angle and every propaganda-soaked outlet I've heard the accusations of racism But I've never seen or heard him utter anything that intimates it (And I've been watching and listening very closely) I see a human being, a very imperfect one with an ego, like me A perfectionist and workaholic who wants to leave a positive legacy behind And I believe he sincerely strives to do the best job he can each day Whether or not it's popular or partisan He is a brilliant businessman, and that's important, too, in my opinion For it gives him a unique view of world finance, and a valuable edge He is also NOT a lawyer, and I like that as well Don't get me wrong, there are MANY good lawyers on this earth But the precepts of the job lend themselves to lying, 'nuf said I believe a leader is only as good as those around him And he has MANY very good people in supportive cabinet roles I feel strongly about family and those close, trusting ties And his family is an active part of the administration I think early-on that he was shooting in the dark, and unsure But he has embraced his responsibilities and job Burning both ends of the candle to learn and do as much as possible I do not know him enough to make character judgements But here's the crux of it all for me: I like and agree with much of what I've seen since he came to office The country is in a considerably better place than it was two years ago In ways that demonstrate that he is the opposite of what his critics claim "Actions speak louder than words" is a very trite phrase But it IS that for a reason - it is SENSIBLE And so far, despite a rather arrogant demeanor His actions have been GOOD for this country I refuse to hate ANYone, for any reason And I will continue to wish the best for this man, Donald Trump He IS the POTUS, whatever others think or rationalize And I want him to succeed, truly Because if HE succeeds, then the country does And I can not believe that his failure would be anything but detrimental For US, for the COUNTRY, and for the WORLD That, in my view, is the bottom line That's what matters to me This country and US The people. ~ 1st Place ~ in the "A Positive President Trump" Poetry Contest, Anthony Slausin, Judge & Sponsor.
