The Diamond
THE DIAMOND There once was a huge diamond, a sparkling, perfect gem That had good deal of value and worth in eyes of men. But one small group had gathered around it on one day, And as they checked it closely, each one of them would say, "I know this diamond's value is great to all who look, But we could make it worth more if just some steps we took." And so they set that diamond so carefully in its place And experts in the field of diamonds cut a trace- A small incision on it, and then the chisel came; The experts gathered round him-that cutter with such fame, And downward came the hammer, with crash and force so cruel; The diamond with its value, now cut with one's sharp tool. And then their eyes all glistened as they again looked down Upon the diamond's pieces, all scattered on the ground. "This diamond's value's tripled! No! It is worth much more Than it had on that table just minutes there before!" And I, like that bright diamond, have value in God's eyes, But now He holds that chisel, with knowledge oh, so wise. Though knowing it will hurt me as His hammer crashes down, He knows a greater value to Him that will be found. Lord, may I want that value You truly have for me And yield to You to make me what You want me to be.
