Search and Rescue December 24th 1982
On a cold stormy winters night I was all snuggled in my bed I received a call from our Captain that said, May get out of bed A Plane had crashed high upon a mountain top around 4,000 feet Three on board this small plane a mother, father and baby boy Only 15 of us on this search to find this plane and, a report came in The plane had crashed around 3 hours ago in three feet of snow All our equipment was packed and we were ready to go As we reached the bottom of this mountain it was as black as coal No moonlight that night and it started to snow As we started up this mountain with zero visibility we all looked up And sure enough the clouds we separating right in front of me It was as if God was shining his flashlight showing us the way To guide us the rest of the way not a word was said for we all had fear To find them all dead it seemed like day’s but we made it half way We sat and took a break as we reached the top of this mountain We heard a strange noise like a whimpering of a baby deer We had reached the plane and to our surprise it was not a deer We had found them all alive broken and battered but, no deer There were Christmas presents sacred all around and still, no deer The chopper could not fly that night there wasn’t any visibility We placed them in a gurney and carried them down the mountain Some had tears in their eyes for if it wasn’t for God’s flashlight To show us the way we would have been to late to find them They would have died from exposure, On Christmas Day We all had failed that night because we never found that deer
