The Shadow of What Might Have Been
The Shadow of What Might Have Been How many great things have died upon the wind? Great songs torn from out a composers heart, Their melodies fading with the evening light. How many great things have died upon the wind? A babe finds death within his Mother's arms; Who might have freed the world from toil and slavery. How many great things have died upon the wind? Great poetry washed from out the Poets heart, A Picture vanished from the Artist's grasp? How many great things have died upon the wind? A soul turned backward into sin; Who might have preached the mighty hordes to Glory? How many great things have died upon the wind? And vanished like the lightning in the west, That might have risen like the evening star, And brightened all the World with it's light.
