The Choir of Birds
THE CHOIR OF BIRDS He’d sit there playing music from tapes or his guitar, And birds would come to listen from nearby or from far. They loved so much the music that they would sing along, And he had quite a choir to sing their special song. It did not seem to matter what tune was being played, The choir of birds would sing out with music that they made. One day it all was quiet as he lay there so still For God called him to heaven according to His will. No one had quite expected to see him as he lay, And even birds who gathered perched silently that day. The choir loft long stayed quiet, but then one day the sky Was filled again with music with a bird choir flying by. They must have met in heaven there with his brother, too, And learned how much their music had meant there from the blue. So they came back from heaven to sing to us that day To once again remind us of the music that he’d play. Oh, thank You, dear Lord Jesus, for your birds in the sky Who help us to remember that You are there nearby. And though we miss our two sons, those birds you send our way To sing in a great choir and brighten up our day Are songs straight out of heaven, perhaps singing along, With our two sons in heaven around the happy throng. Now each time we look upward and hear those birds once more, Please tell my two sons, “Thank you” for the memories of yore! --Dedicated to Mom & Dad Rogers based on the story they told me of Lloyd and the birds’ choir.
