One Night In a Haunted Manor
For so many years my one desire was to stay all night in a haunted manor With candelabras to lighten my way, heated by the warmth of a welcome fire Haunted perchance by a lady in white over the years such yearnings to find her Whilst visiting a medieval Maiden’s Tower atop of an ancient manor house I entered a room closed to the public, trying to escape a marauding mouse In the late afternoon as I explored further, through a creaky oak door I emerged A cell like room so sparse and small, apart from a bed there was nothing at all Feeling sleepy I laid upon the bed, as slowly my imaginings began to take over I felt the presence of a fragile young girl, as falling asleep I could hear her weep Locking her away for so many years; her family was told that she was insane But really she was just misunderstood, such a waste of a life never let out again So cruelly imprisoned for so many years, eventually she did lose her mind When finally she died, her spirit remained; unable to leave it was left behind Listening to her story I showed her compassion, and persuaded her spirit to rest For until her spirit was able to leave, her poor sweet soul was left unblessed On waking at dawn I was cold and alone and I wondered was this all a dream but there on the floor the white dress she wore, her soul now at peace it would seem 3rd January 2019 Competition: One Night In A Haunted Manor Sponsor: Tania Kitchin 4th placement in a Premier contest Ultimate January 2019 Brian Strand
