A Reason For the Pain
A REASON FOR THE PAIN There is a reason I can find for this pain you endure, Why all the doctors with their minds can’t find for you a cure. There is a reason that I know that such a one as you Would have this vale of trial so that you’ve been going through. It’s not a reason I can give that will erase the pain, To cause the flow of health to live and move through you again. But there is a reason, that is sure, beyond our wildest dreams Why God chose you to now endure this pain that makes you scream. In haste we could say He’s not fair to let His child go through The agony and hurt you bear until we stop to view That rugged cross where once He hung with pain and sorrow great And would not leave till He was done with paying for our fate. The pain of hell forever more was vast and deep and wide, And every bit of it He bore with pierced hands, feet, and side, The lashes of the whip, the thorns, the spitting in the face, The mocking, beating, cruel scorn, the shame and the disgrace, His naked body on the tree, and then the blackened sky-- And yet He, too, spoke out that plea as He asked His Father why! We may not know how in His love He gives you pain to bear, We do know that He sits above and has you in His care. As through your pain I’ve seen you smile and still trust in His grace, I know as I walk painful miles, my thoughts to you are traced. For all the pain I’ve had in life, the heartaches, or the tears, The misery and all the strife, and intimidating fears Are just a bruise compared to you, yet I see Him in you, And so when I am sad and blue, I think what God can do. For if amidst this gruesome pain you still can feel His love, Then I can trust through storm and rain till I’m with Him above. A reason for the pain? It seems I have one that is true: In God’s great wisdom and His schemes He spoke to me through you. I know that if we had our way, this pain would now be healed, But though it may not be today, His promise is revealed: He promised yours will leave some day, and so will all I bear When Christ takes me and you away to heaven, bright and fair! So now in hours of deepest trial, look at that cross again, And see through all life’s darkest miles a reason for the pain. Dedicated to Mrs. Debbie Fraunfelter.
