The Birds
He turned away, his face was filled with scorn; She stood there, frozen, waiting for his words, “I wish to God that you had not been born". As he walked off she heard the songs of birds. She wondered then how could her God allow This mocking sound so sweet and so assured; Her soul was crushed but could she break her vow; Against this pain, her heart was not inured. She lay her head upon her pillow hard; She dreamed that night of monsters and of fear; The morning saw her pale and sorely marred; How could she leave this marriage once held dear. The day wore on with agonizing pace; Then came a change, no more would she employ The sacrifice she’d given to this place; Again, outside, the birds sang out in joy. She left his house and forward turned her gaze; Her soul sang out and joined the birds in praise.
