Joseph
Some thrive to be great having never defined what it really means. I suspect that 'greatness' was not the pursuit of those who achieved it. I suspect they were seeking something far superior to mere human accolades. I wasn't looking for personal greatness, but for God and the fulfillment of His promises. So often we think greatness is achieved or accomplished by something we accomplish. Or that our greatness is because we saved a life, took another's life, or heroically gave our own. Sometimes, we are ascribed greatness for simply having appeared in the 'right place' at the 'right time' and instinctively swang into action because we cared and had love in our hearts. Let me just say that history records my life, and many deem me as one who achieved greatness. I prefer to think that I was more chosen than I was in any way great or an outstanding person. My father treated me much more favorable than my older brothers which became a cause for envy and a real clear and present danger for me. There were times I wish I wasn't so chosen. Anyway, it was not my choice, but I arrived in Egypt at the hands of my evil brothers and slave traders. Although I had no choice in my going to Egypt, and if possible I would certainly have fought against the idea altogether, yet, had these adverse circumstances never happened to me, my family would not have been favorably treated when they arrived in Egypt from the drought in the Land of Palestine. After arriving, I spent the rest of my life in Egypt and became a ruler that helped to save many lives. But the road to my leadership and rulership was paved with hardship, sorrow, and disappointment. My name is Joseph, but there was another Joseph who came hundreds of years later who was not exactly chosen, but whose OBEDIENCE should never be underestimated. I greatly admire his ability to be obedient in the midst of great frustration and confusion. I honor him greatly for his courage. Yes, he was the Joseph who came to Egypt to save the life of his child who was indeed The Son of God. But unlike me, he was able to return to the land of his birth. 11242018PoSoup
