The Three-Legged Horse
THE THREE-LEGGED HORSE I am placing all my bets, on this, 'ere 3-legged horse That it shows some fettle, and gets round the course It has no chance of winning, for that you can be sure But as for its enthusiasm, God only has for it no cure Nobody ever told it, you need four legs, just to stand It just wobbled here and there, then up and off it ran Its master knew it was a keeper, now, it's in the race But very strangely, this horse is keeping up the pace The sounds of laughter, now replaced with sheer awe As the punters shouted come on 3 give it some more On the last furlong all the other horses it had passed As bookmakers looked on, we are broke they gasped The odds on even horse favourite to win had expired Cause it did not have in itself of that it most required Was on its back, hooves in air, fending a heart attack O’ woe betide you said it's master when you get back There was mayhem in the stalls, as all bets were lost With betting slips ripped in half on the ground tossed As that three-legged horse crossed, the finishing line And all because that ‘ere horse had itself some spine Indiana Shaw . . . ; )
