Christmas Mourning
I remember the excitement of Christmas, it was a magical time My Mema would decorate her home with Santa’s of any kind She would start in October, every wall covered in Christmas cheer It was a special time and reflecting back brings mourning tears We would venture out into the woods to look for the perfect tree My Grampa Joe would cut it down, our tree was perfect and free My favorite part was decorating it with tinsel, and colorful bubble lights It was a wonderful adventure, my heart yearns for those magical nights We would try to guess our gifts under the tree and wanted to peek My family would give us clues to our gifts, that were really unique If we guessed right, we could open that one mystery gift early If We couldn’t figure it out, sometimes the clues became a story Grampa Joe would cook us an early party breakfast the next day Of rye toast, fried eggs, home fries with onions, his special way I will always cherish these memories that are so heartfelt and dear I mourn for those magical moments in time and wish they were still here 11/18/18
