Soon She'Ll Be Leaving, Her Little Dog Too - Wiz
Soon she’ll be leaving, her little dog too - Wiz This morning so bleak, there are storms in the sky As I pick up my brush and my can Black and white visions now wandering by Who me, you can just call me Stan A painter of sorts though no portraits you see For my talents are not for report Besides everything looks much larger to me Because I’m incredibly short A munchkin I am, though not one you would know Not part of the lollipop guild No slippers or tutus for a ballet show No famous positions I’ve filled My boss is a man who lives quite far away He’s one that not many have seen A wizard who is the most wisest, they say Though weird, if you know what I mean Well, I’m off to work, I’ve got painting to do There’s so many bricks in this road But why paint them gray, such a drab colored hue Must purchase this stuff by the load When suddenly there falls a house from the air The ground starts to rumble and twitch I then hear a scream like a loud siren blare Oh my, it fell right on the witch Then just like a dream the whole village has changed To colors so vivid and bright As if everything has just been rearranged And no longer is black and white There are houses of red and flowers of blue And now I’m an excited fellow For these bricks I’ve been painting, now long over due Aren’t gray, but a nice shade of yellow The rest of this story I know is quite long So I’ll skip right on up to the end I know seeing colors just cannot be wrong My thoughts I’m prepared to defend I followed the road to a castle of green It sparkled like emeralds spun To ask of the wizard to honor this scene And keep every color undone For soon she’ll be leaving, her little dog too They’ll soar in the heavens above I think back to Kansas is what they will do Back home to a place that they love I hope that don’t mean, no it just can’t be right That these colors will all disappear And once more the village will be black and white For that is the one thing I fear “Oh Stan, do not worry, the colors will stay And your paint, a bright yellow will be For I see all the happiness now on display And it shines a nice light down on me” Then he said with a wink and a whimsical grin That I took for a wizardly smirk “A brand new brick road I’m about to begin And it’s time that you went back to work” 10/29/18 Written for the Off To See The Wizard Poetry Contest Sponsored by Charles Messina In the Movie, The Wizard of Oz, everything is filmed in Black and White until Dorothy’s house lands in Oz. Then everything is filmed in color.
