Inner Vows
I saw you as a little child, with disgust at what you saw You made a vow inside yourself, you made a judgment call I heard the promise that you made, it was, “O, I will never!” I saw all the strings attached that God wants you to sever I longed to see just what you saw, so I could better pray Just what caused you to make yourself that vow, that day? Did you see some one so fat that it caused you to shudder? I only know that judgment came when you judged another Was there a child involved, did you see a mom or dad Not do as you would have done, did you judge them as bad? Could it be an ugly one or one with some addiction? Or possibly, the beauty queen, of way too much distinction? What about the sloppy one, the way that they house keep? Did you say, not me, O no, I’ll never! I’ll always be neat? Or did they care way too much about what others think? Were they so meticulous that it took you to the brink? In all these meditations, I’ve come at last to see It is possible that little girl I saw was not you, but me So in the fear of God, when I would say, “I’ll never” I say, “Not my will, O Lord”, I say “Lord, Whatever”
