The Hyenas
Tobacco, Littering, Smell of teen spirit. Scratching it on telephone poles Gnawing on selfie sticks. Cat toys, For ruthless animals. Hidden in boney skin suits Sniffing out blood Sinking their teeth into complements, Insults. Noisily chewing their prey To stick under tables, desks. Bitter garbage they scavenge. Look at the raw, cold meat they sink in their claws! Love with passion, And false flags flying! But hate Make sure you hate. Laugh at fear! Hysterical snickering, And twist your words. Growl in your gut, And, And! Sniff the rotted fleshy ground, And howl to packs to bring Them down. In darkness past muddy pools of alcohol. Into the night, Our paws cut up from needles littering the street. Mangy, sweaty, hopeless animals. Nipping ears, Picking fights, Whining for love but too feral to pet. Licking wounds while walking around fires and secretly wishing escape. Yes, escape! To be rescued, Freed from this torment, But not wanted to show weakness, We cackle and hiss While shivering. Loss of blood leaving us cold and bruised. Running our teeth over fresh canines. Fear clawing at our weak bones, Turning us lean. Devouring marrow from our meals, Picked clean.
