Remembering
I enter the gates rusty and old- worn with age a resting place that fills my heart with sorrow barren trees hang low and withered flowers lay forlorn a cold grey sky hovers above and the wind takes my flowing hair oh, I am remembering, remembering though the drums of time have rolled on leaving a scar on the map of my soul hidden birds are singing sad music that drifts a gravel path takes me deep into the labyrinth maze where crumbling old markers erode with time and I am lost in a sea of nameless death some markers are simple crosses (unreadable) others stone engraved I cross the little bridge where a quiet icy stream ripples still - I remember, remember deep valleys of pristine snow lay before me beautiful- until I notice the toppled statues decaying this scene holds a place in my life I want to forget it- to leave it behind but I cannot then- I am standing at the grave of my sweet beloved Snowball cat . . . buried in childhood as my eyes swell with a sea of tears and dark clouds sail across the sky- _____________________________ October 1, 2018 Poetry/Free Verse/Remembering Copyright Protected, ID 18-1066-258-18 All Rights Reserved.
