Once Upon a Fear
There were no screams nor yells for help. No sounds were heard from within me or out, but if my ears were put close to my chest I would have heard a pulsating sound and the feel of a rapid increase of heartbeats. Welcome to the massive emotional world of "Fear". By definition, a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined.* Such fear was given birth by something it felt, saw or sensed, a clear and present danger. Perhaps originating in both the physical and non-physical faculties of my heart, it was somehow granted passage. It then moved rapidly to my brain signaling me to respond or react. I felt it and fortunately was able to face it. It gripped me tightly as it grew intensely, momentarily refusing to let go of me. Fear, indeed a bully, tormentor, a freezer, and a paralyzer. I do not recall any drops of sweat. A tear would have appeared and being wiped away, it would have stopped. A teardrop would have been more easily forgotten. But fear, not so easily so. It attached itself to the whole of my life-long memory and though not rendering me helpless, for a brief few seconds, it held me captive. That fear was real but did not defeat me. So real in fact that it desired to steal and take more than my humanity. However, from it I have been healed because I faced it. There have been many a fear of various sorts, but that fear was laced with an emotion and a timeline of its own. 09062018PoSoupContest, Write Me An Emotion-Act, Brenda Chiri; 5P *Dictionary.Com
